How To Watch Less TV

TV. Love it or hate it, we almost all watch it. Lots and lots of it

Quite a lot of people would prefer to watch less television if they could work out how to. Whether you're sat glued to the tv or whether it's just there, playing to itself.

Chances are that if I asked you what you just watched, you would be able to give me at least an outline of it. But yesterday's television? Or last week? Hmmm. Your recall probably isn't as good.

So is there anything you can do that will help you to watch less television?

Here are some easy tips to watch less television.

1. Press the off switch

Eek! Turn the television off? In some households, the thing stays on 24 hours a day. But if you're on your own and you're not really watching the TV, it's just "on", turn the darn thing off.

2. Book the shows you really want to watch

Chances are that there are some shows you really "must" watch. Maybe it's Kiefer Sutherland saving the world (again) in 24. Or possibly there's no way you want to miss the next instalment on how those desperate housewives are coping. It doesn't matter what your decision is, that's fine. Keep watching those. Just not all the other stuff in the intervening hours.

3. Turn off the news

Another big issue for a lot of people. But nothing much really newsworthy actually happens and if it does, you'll hear about it soon enough. Most of the time, watching the news rotate on television is merely a reason for wallowing in other people's suffering. Cut those negative vibes out of your life and gain back the extra hours every week.

4. Use that television recorder

Record the programs you want to watch. Then relax and watch them, but with the remote control close by to race through all the trailers and commercial breaks. That will free up around 20 minutes in every hour of television you would have watched. Which at least means you get more time to watch even more shows if you fail in your quest to watch less TV!

5. Use hypnosis to help

Yes. This works a treat. Just download a hypnosis track to watch less TV and listen to it and you'll quickly find your mind coming up with other things to do than sit and watch tv.
